What it is

A luxury fluoride-free tooth powder, hand-finished in small batches. Seven ingredients, each traceable to a single origin, and nothing else.

The seven ingredients

Micro-crystalline hydroxyapatite is the mineral your enamel is made of, and it has been studied for enamel remineralization. Organic Finnish birch xylitol works against the bacteria that feed on sugar. Georgia kaolin clay lifts coffee and wine stains gently, without wearing enamel down.

Amabito no Moshio sea salt from Hiroshima, Italian peppermint oil, Indian spearmint, and organic menthol crystals finish it with trace minerals and a cool freshness that lasts.

Every origin: kaolin clay (Georgia, USA), birch xylitol (Finland), micro-crystalline hydroxyapatite (New Zealand), Amabito no Moshio sea salt (Hiroshima, Japan), peppermint (Italy), spearmint (India), menthol (India).

The ritual

Each 35 gram jar lasts five weeks on average with twice-daily brushing. Wet your brush, dip, and brush gently for two minutes. Free U.S. shipping. The One Jar Guarantee.

The Science of Remineralization

In an 18-month randomized controlled trial, a 10% hydroxyapatite toothpaste performed comparably to fluoride in remineralizing early enamel lesions.

A 2019 clinical study in BDJ Open found hydroxyapatite toothpaste remineralized initial caries lesions and performed as well as fluoride.

Crown is made with 15% microcrystalline hydroxyapatite, the same mineral your enamel is made of, at a higher concentration than the products studied above.

Crown is a cosmetic tooth powder. These studies describe hydroxyapatite as an ingredient and do not test Crown itself. Not a substitute for professional dental care.

Questions, answered

How is tooth powder different from toothpaste?
Toothpaste needs water, humectants, thickeners, preservatives, and usually a foaming detergent just to stay a paste in a tube. Tooth powder skips all of it, just the working ingredients with nothing holding them together. You dip a damp brush instead of squeezing a tube. Crown is seven ingredients and nothing else.
How long does one jar last?
Each 35 g jar lasts five weeks on average with twice-daily brushing. A little powder goes a long way, so lighter use stretches it further.
Can I take it on a plane?
Yes. Crown is a dry powder, so it isn't subject to the TSA liquids rule (the 3-1-1 limit on liquids and gels) and travels in your carry-on without the tube-and-baggie routine. The glass jar is solid, but it's worth padding inside a wash bag.
Is it safe if I swallow a little?
Crown is fluoride-free, and the ingredients are ones you'll recognize. Small amounts swallowed while brushing are normal with any tooth cleaner. Just rinse and spit as you normally would. Keep the jar out of reach of young children, and if you have specific medical questions, ask your dentist.
How do I use it?
Wet your toothbrush and shake off the excess so it's damp, not dripping. Dip the bristles into the jar, then brush in gentle circles for two minutes, morning and night. The powder turns to a light paste as you go. Rinse, and keep the jar sealed and dry between uses.
Does hydroxyapatite remineralize teeth?
Hydroxyapatite has been studied for enamel remineralization for decades, including an 18-month trial comparing it head-to-head with fluoride. We've put the key studies in The Science of Remineralization section. Read the research and decide for yourself.
